FUN @ tarbela dam.

Yesterday me and few university friends visit tarbela main dam site, as my home town (sobra city colony) is located near the world biggest earth filled “TARBELA DAM” So on their request i arrange the visit, I get a security pass from the PSO (project security officer). its a written statement from the head of security, which has to be shown while entering at security check posts. here i want to mention that, due to some security reasons visiting main dam site for outsiders & general public is strictly prohibited these days. But since i got resident here, that is why i got permission after a little hassle. Note that we got permission to visit the dam area for 2 hours only. As my friends arrived from Peshawar, soon we make our way towards the dam & i feel myself like a tourist guide. it was infact a great experience for me as well because i got the chance to visit the place after one year. weather is cool we enjoy it sitting at the top view point & basking the sun. we also take food with us as there is no refreshment points or tuck shop there, had a lunch there on the top view point called “ja ey nazara”. though photography is not allowed there but one of my friend can’t stop himself & take a couple of photos using his cell phone.
Tarbela dam is Constructed on Indus river near haripur, about 90 KM from the capital city Islamabad. its construction began in 1968 and continued until its completion in late 70s. it is built for the purpose of storing water to make it use for the generation of hydro electric power. the lake of tarbela dam has the length of 98 km depth is 137 meter. basically tarbela is a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains. besides villages like ghazi & khalo. after the construction of dam a huge pool of people got residence at residential colonies like right bank colony, sanobar colony, sobra city colony, mehran colony, main Colony & TRO colony, all of the residents in these colonies are the permanent employees of Wapda, except the TRO & PFL colony which is recently handed over to army (SSG) for residential purpose.

I used to live in Tarbela, from 1990 to 1997, and I’m settled in another city for the last 11 years but Tarbela feels like my home. I don’t even feel that attached to my own village… I dream about Tarbela even now!
Salam,
I am in Chicago, USA. I grew up in Tarbela and still miss that place. I lived first in PFL and then Sobra colony in house # K16 and then in L25.
I have been trying hard for years to find my class mates from Tarbela.
My email is irfan1@hotmail.com
I hope to visit Tarbela again one day. i loved walking for miles into the mountains and valleys.
Do you know that Shah Ismail shaeed fought a war in these mountains around Gazi against Sicks and Britian army?
